Recent key consultancy roles:
- Project managing, supporting and delivering a programme to enable NHS Live award finalists from 2008 to spread their results. Includes developing a spread diagnostic self assessment. (September 2008 – current)
- Assisting the NHS Institute for Innovation and Improvement’s Academy for Large Scale Change as a Coach. This is an extensive development and delivery role working with Strategic Health Authorities to help them achieve their large scale goals (September 2008 – current)
- Supporting Bristol PCT in the design and delivery of their change
program (April 2008 – current)
- Developed the spread and dissemination strategy for the NHS Institute
in England, designed and tested the framework for spreading innovation
as part of the Institute’s Work Process and provided coaching
on spread and adoption to Institute teams (2007 – current)
- Training and development, and project leader support for the NIZW
(renamed in 2007 to Vilans) group in Netherlands to support their significant
nationwide spread of good practice campaign of long term care projects
(2006 – current); includes seven programs in multiple waves.
Also developed a national spread and dissemination strategy for long
term care.
- Pacific Group Health in California to support design of program
and deliver workshops (Optimizing Performance Series) in providing
leadership and improvement to spread good practice in California (2005 – current)
- Virtual and face-to-face consultancy and training roles with the
California Healthcare Foundation supporting their requirement to develop
and improvement network to spread good practice in California (2005 – current)
- Virtual Consultancy services as Improvement Consultant (mainly Spread
Expert), contracted via SFA Ltd, to Visiting Nurse Service of New York,
USA for Home Service Improvement Collaborative, reducing acute care
admissions (November 05 – Aug 07)
- Provided workshops and consultancy to various groups in the south
and north of Sweden, mostly on the topic of the spread and sustainability
of good practice, as well as the engagement of leadership (2002 – current)
- Consultancy services with USA Veterans Administration VISN 23 (South
Dakota) Communication Team Collaborative, based on improving both communication
and work flow (June 05 – Sep 06)
- Lead advisor for the NHS National Prescribing Centre’s Medicines
Management programme (Apr 2001 – Feb 2006). Involves design,
facilitation and expert content support to one of the largest collaborative
change programmes in the UK, involving 200+ teams representing over
600 primary care practices, covering 20+ million people as well as
other organisations involved in medicines management. Extended to include
30 hospitals from 2004, including Mental Health in 2005, and then a
Community Pharmacy Collaborative in 2005/6.
- Design and facilitation of the leadership programme for National
Clinical Endoscopy Leads (Oct 03 – Jan 04; re-commissioned through
to Jan 2005, under discussion for design of new programme for 2007-8);
Currently coaching individual clinicians within this program.
- Design and Delivery of a nine month personal and organisational
development program for the Cheshire & Merseyside Heath Authority
in England during 2005.
- Consultant to the Department of Health Policy Collaborative in 2004/5.
- Programme Visitor to Veterans Administration (USA) Quality Scholar
Program Summer Institute, annually since 2001.
- Lead Advisor (jointly Dr Tim Wilson) for the NHS Trent Region Older
People’s Services Collaborative (May 01 – May 02)
- Macmillan Support Programme Co-ordinator and facilitator for the
South East and London Region for the Primary Care Cancer Leads; includes
coordinating 6 collaborative learning set facilitators for personal
support to over 100 cancer leads (Nov 01 – Mar 04)
- Provision of support, advice, workshops and guidance to the London
Region Older People’s Services Collaborative, the Primary Care
Development Team (Access collaborative, Smart Care Programme, Healthy
Communities Collaborative), the National Patient’s Access Team
(Cancer Collaborative, Booked Admissions, Critical Care, Idealised
Design of Emergency Access, Coronary Heart Disease, Theatre Scheduling
programme). Much of this has focused on how good practice can be spread
and adopted by others.
- Design and delivery of the NHS Leadership Centre’s programme
for newly appointed chief executives. Was extended to cover 2002 programme
for over 120 Chief Executives.
- Provision of expert advice on various topics, mostly the spread
and adoption of good practice, to projects co-ordinated by the Institute
for Healthcare Improvement in Boston. Similar advice and support for
improvement projects in Sweden.
- Various short-term projects, workshops and presentations, working
with NHS Trusts and Primary Care Groups to find new ways of delivering
improved services.
- Presentations and full day workshops given at International Conferences
in the USA, Canada, Netherlands, Italy, Sweden, Norway and UK.
